Catherine Crane is a compliance attorney in the firm’s Political Law section. She has more than a decade of political compliance experience, advising businesses, organizations, and political action committees throughout the country on local, state, and federal campaign finance and lobbying matters.
Prior to joining Nielsen Merksamer, Ms. Crane served as a Vice President for PAC Compliance and as the Director of Lobbying Compliance at two different national political compliance software companies. She previously worked as an attorney at a political law firm based in San Francisco.
Ms. Crane graduated cum laude from Washington University in St. Louis’s School of Law. While in law school, she clerked for a national party committee and the U.S. Senate Committee on the Judiciary, assisting with a U.S. Supreme Court nomination. She also served as an editor on the Washington University Law Review, with her published Student Note on Social Networking receiving the Mary Collier Hitchcock Prize for Outstanding Writing. Immediately upon graduation, Catherine began working on the legal team of a major political party Presidential Nominee through the 2012 General Election.
Prior to law school, Catherine worked in the U.S. Senate and The White House. She graduated cum laude from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University with joint B.S./M.S. degrees in broadcast journalism, along with a double major in political science. She interned as an on-air reporter in Chicago and Kentucky, and as a producer on several national news programs, before transitioning to politics and law.
