Jason Kaune, head of Nielsen Merksamer’s political law section and ranked for the third year by Chambers USA as one of the nation’s leading political lawyers, has been appointed by the President of the American Bar Association (ABA) to the 2023-2024 Advisory Commission to the ABA Task Force for American Democracy.  This follows his reappointment to chair the ABA’s Standing Committee on Election Law.

The Task Force for American Democracy  will study critical legal issues currently posing a threat to our American Democracy and provide actionable recommendations for reform on a nonpartisan basis.

The Standing Committee on Election Law has, since 1973, served as the ABA’s bipartisan authority on election administration at the federal, state, and local level.  The committee conducts frequent programming, sponsors policies, and is now recruiting lawyers to serve as poll workers under Poll Workers, Esq. in conjunction with the National Association of Secretaries of State.

Mr. Kaune continues to co-chair the Practising Law Institute’s (PLI) widely regarded annual conference Corporate Political Activities 2023: Complying With Campaign Finance, Lobbying, and Ethics Laws , with Nielsen Merksamer partner Elli Abdoli  also on the faculty.  In 2024, he will again teach a course on “Political Ethics and Issues for Organizations” at the Yale School of Management.
